Copywriting using pixels

Today we are starting off with Media Literacy which will be the building foundation for the upcoming assignments given. There are strategies when working with images, audio and videos. Although it is not about teaching the skills on how to create and edit, but to develop them as the weeks progress.

Our first exercise was to open the Middlesex homepage and save the image to the desktop. Within that photo choose a small area to crop and change the colour balance, apply an artistic filter and save it with the BMP format.

The last exercise is to change the eye colour to shades of red and gold after the film "Twilight Saga". For this I was able to look for a tutorial on how from YouTube with the software GIMP. For this I used the photo of the 44th President of the United States of America.

These tasks were fairly easy to achieve with clear instructions given. However, because these photographs are public property, I would have no right to publish and make these as my own because of copyright laws. It would be illegal to pass this off as something I have created on my own. Although if I were to take a photograph with my own devices and edit them I would be able to publish and then include a watermark to verify them as my own.
